The Mayoralty of Bucharest together with the Association for Assistance and Programs for Sustainable Development (APDD) - Agenda 21 organized on 18th of May the Bucharest - Sustainable City March event, part of the European Walk the (Global) Walk: mobilizing European young people to support Sustainable Development Goals.
The event took place on the main alleys and in the Herăstrău Summer Garden of King Mihai I (former Herăstrău) park, between 12.00 p.m. to 18.00 p.m., and brought together almost 1,000 participants, among which over 700 registered pupils from major schools and high schools of Bucharest: Anghel Saligny Technical College, "Dante Alighieri" Theoretical High School, "Grigore Moisil" National College, "Tudor Vladimirescu" Theoretical High School, George Coşbuc National College, "Mihai Viteazul" National College, Nicolae Kretzulescu Commercial School, "Virgil Madgearu" Economic College, "Viaceslav Harnaj" Technological College, "Viilor" Economic College, Public General School no. 194.
The event marked the end of the European Week dedicated to Sustainable Development Objectives, 13-18 May 2019, a week in which the 12 participating schools organized in their own communities, with the support of local authorities of districts 1-6, exhibitions, campaigns, concerts, flash mobs, workshops and conferences on the Sustainable Development Objective no. 11 - Cities and Sustainable Communities.
Alongside us, NGOs actively involved in promoting sustainable development were present: AIESEC Romania, the Association of the School of Values, the Voice of Abandoned Children's Association, the Pachamama Association of Romania, the Association of the Municipal Center for Dialogue of Bucharest and the Association for Supporting Youth, Students and Teachers.
During the 6 hours of the event, both students and the general public were able to attend conferences and workshops, thematic contests with prizes, and watched the show staged by the students of the participating schools.
The day ended with a concert by the Mix & Match band, and three students, who participated in the Walk the Global Walk main contest and responded correctly to 5 sustainable development questions, won a professional bike, an electric trotte and a hoverboard.
The event took place with the extraordinary institutional support of ARCUB - Bucharest Cultural Center, Bucharest Youth Center, Constantin Tanase Theatre and Administration of Lakes, Parks and Agreements of Bucharest.
Walk the (Global) Walk: mobilizing European young people to promote Sustainable Development Goals is a project co-funded by the European Commission through the DEAR LA-Ref EuropeAid / 151103 / ACT / MULTI-4 funding line - Raising awareness of the public opinion on development issues and the promotion of development education in the European Union, and pursues objectives, during the 3 years of implementation (2017-2020), to stimulate partnership and collaboration between Local Public Administrations and actively engaged NGOs The Sustainable Development Objectives (ODD) adopted by UN Member States through Agenda 2030, and creating an innovative educational model in pre-university education on ODD, promoting civic engagement and raising awareness among young people of their global responsibilities.
The project enjoys wide international participation, consisting of a consortium consisting of 19 partners from 11 European countries (Italy, France, Croatia, Cyprus, Wales, Scotland, Portugal, Greece, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Albania, Bulgaria, Romania ).
