As part of this week's activities, school students participating in the Walk the Global Walk project discussed their vision of sustainable cities and communities.

In the view of the Romanian students, a central element of sustainable urban development is the constant dialogue between local authorities, NGO’s and citizens as a basis for designing sustainable public policies.

We have found with pleasure that they learned from our mistakes and designed cities where the focus is on limiting polluting industries, adopting technological innovations to curb pollution and reducing natural resource consumption.

Urban planning is centered on green spaces and accessible public transportation, while industrial areas are pushed to the outskirts of cities.

Respect for cultural plurality has not been forgotten, Romanian students conceiving multicultural areas in their ideal sustainable communities.
