From the 18th of January 18 to the 11th of March, activities were carried out in 9 schools from the municipality of Vila Franca de Xira. These activities were part of the training actions provided in the Pedagogical Resource Guide for teachers. In collaboration with other colleagues, it incorporates themes and methods from Global Citizenship Education (ECG) in the subject in which they teach, and therefore allows for the development of interdisciplinary classes.
These in class activities had the support of AIDGLOBALs’ team, as well as aid from 3 technicians from the Municipality of VFX, project partners, and the Teacher’s Guide co-authors. The 23 teachers involved were also provided with comprehensive work tools. About 300 students were informed on the Sustainable Development Goals and of their significance, in particular SDG 11 "Sustainable Cities and Communities".
The following steps are to promote and develop student reflection and leadership skills, so that they can take action and lead future activities in their schools. The highlight for these activities will take place during the SDGs Week between the 13th and 17th of May in Vila dos Reis de Xira. At that time there was also a Global Walk, so that all the young people are in good condition. During this period, there will also be an organized Global Walk where all the youth will be invited to take part.
The Walk the (Global) Walk project is funded by the European Commission: Development Education and Raising Awareness programme and co-financed by Camões Institute of Cooperation and Language, I.P, and will run for 36 months. It involves 11 countries and 20 partner entities, including AIDGLOBAL.
